Avoid 5 Mistakes when Washing Your Face

Washing the face is one of the skincare routine that you shouldn't miss. Not only refreshing, washing the face is very useful for cleaning dirt that sticks to the skin

Many still think that washing the face is a trivial matter. From the start, we are taught that washing our faces with soap and water is the basic thing to do to keep our skin healthy. However, not many people realize that there are several mistakes that may often be made when washing their face.

Through this article, we will inform you of 5 common mistakes you may do during washing your face!

#1. Not washing the hands

Before washing the face, it's better to pay attention to the cleanliness of the hands first. You may have heard that harmful germs can move to your face through the dirty hands. Yups, it's true! In fact, the palms are the limbs where germs from various surfaces such as cellphones, tables, doorknobs, and others gather together. So, washing your hands thoroughly should be the first step before washing your face!

#2. Using an extremely hot water

Using water that is too hot when washing your face or bathing is not recommended from the experts. Please note that facial skin is slightly more sensitive and hot water can remove the oil that helps maintain skin quality. When we use hot water too often, our skin will become drier, itchy, and scaly. Nevertheless, water that is too cold cannot open the pores. Thus, dermatologist recommends using lukewarm water daily.

#3. Does not remove makeup properly

Even though washing the face can help remove dirt, dust, and excess oil from your skin, it doesn't mean that removing makeup with soap and water is enough. Washing the face without removing makeup first can hamper the cleansing performance. Therefore, if you use thick makeup or go to a place full of pollution, it's a good idea to clean your face with a milk or oil cleanser as the first step before rinsing it off with facial wash and water.

#4. Washing face too often

Ideally, washing your face with face wash can be done twice a day when you are taking a bath in the morning and at the night. Somehow, in under certain circumstances, washing 3 times a day is still allowed. Experts do not recommend to wash the face too often since it can make the skin dry. When the skin is dry, more oil will be produced to compensate. Besides, if you really need to wash your face more than twice, don't forget to apply a moisturizer to keep your skin moist.

#5. Using the wrong cleaner

As of today, there are many different cleansers made for every skin type. What suits one person may not suit another. So, with so many cleansers available, you have to recognize your skin type and what your skin really need. For example, a hydrating, gentle cleanser is suitable for sensitive and dry skin, while a foaming or salicylic acid-based cleanser is suitable for oily or acne-prone skin. If you still have a doubt about your cleanser, you can consult to expert and find the right cleanser ingredients.

Those are 5 common mistakes that many people unknowingly make when washing their face. If you're still doing one of these, and have a skin condition that doesn't improve, it's time for you to review your skin conditions with a professional.
